Our History
|
McClafferty Printing is a mid-sized commercial printing company that is owned by the same family that formed it over 60 years ago. Founded by William J. McClafferty, Jr., and William J. McClafferty III, in 1948, McClafferty Printing was originally located in downtown Wilmington, Delaware at 501 Orange Street in the center of town.
Shawn McClafferty began to oversee operations in the late seventies, and directed the business toward a four-color environment. The company relocated to 1600 North Scott Street - the heart of scenic Trolley Square, and purchased their first four-color press. McClafferty Printing quickly became the color shop of choice in the area.
The early nineties brought an era of change and the company advanced into the digital arena well ahead of local competitors. Gamut Color, an affiliate of McClafferty Printing, was formed to handle prepress needs and to provide digital imaging services to area designers and advertising agencies.
As technology advanced, so did McClafferty Printing. The company continued to grow in the late nineties, and by 2003 had added three more state-of-the-art Heidelberg presses, running three shifts. Construction of a 10,000 sq.ft. expansion to the McClafferty building was completed in January, 2002.
The year 2007 was another year of major expansion. The McClafferty Printing, Newport Plant opened for business in March including a new 40" Heidelberg SM102 six color perfector press with aqueous coating. This press gives McClafferty the ability to print on all sheetfed sizes. The Newport plant also houses various finishing machines and additional office space for sales, press checks and customer conferences.
We have now enjoyed six decades of success, high quality printing and value added service to a much expanded audience.
